As of April 1, 2024, a significant change in German legislation takes effect: Cannabis is no longer classified as a narcotic under the Narcotic Drugs Act (BtMG). Since 2017, doctors have been allowed to prescribe cannabis for medical purposes under strict legal requirements when conventional treatments do not achieve the desired results.
Full legalization as of April 2024 marks a turning point in German drug policy. Cannabis is no longer viewed as an illegal drug but recognized as a prescription medicine – opening new possibilities for many people to alleviate symptoms of various conditions.
